There are two words used extensively in my line of work, house and home, that although generally considered interchangeable, really do have different meanings. My day-to-day activity involves the sale and purchase of houses throughout the Salt Lake & Davis County area. My clients, on the other hand, engage in the process of transforming these houses into their homes. Each client’s tastes and priorities are different, which is why similar houses can and do transform into very different homes.
This process, in part, also explains why you can traverse the full length of both Salt Lake County and Davis County in less than one hour, yet it has an amazing diversity of real estate sub-markets. You can travel from the historic, eclectic mix of homes in the Avenues and Sugarhouse districts in northeastern Salt Lake County, to the more rural feeling residential communities within Emigration Canyon just minutes away. You can enjoy the scenic panoramas provided in neighborhoods throughout South Jordan or the juxtaposition of lake and mountain vistas in the communities of Farmington and Kaysville in Davis County. You can view the entire Salt Lake Valley to the north from the South Mountain benches in Draper or walk to shopping and more retail activities in Murray and Midvale. Or, simply watch the activity at Hill Air Force Base in Layton. Each of the areas will have their own distinct real estate market conditions and trends.
Some people prefer a more urban environment, others more rural. Some want activities related to maintaining landscapes while others prefer a more maintenance free lifestyle. It is this variation in preferences and of our current market’s myriad of locations, styles and inventory mix that make it important to have a consultant who understands your individual preferences and can advise you during your search for that house which can be transformed into your home.
